If you're having problems with your Intel graphics driver after a recent update, you can often fix these issues by rolling back to a previous version. This guide will provide clear steps to access the Device Manager, identify the installed driver version, roll back the driver, verify the rollback, and address common issues that might occur during the process.

How to Access Device Manager

To open the Device Manager on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard or click on the Start button.
  1. Type Device Manager in the search bar and press Enter.
  1. The Device Manager window will open, showing a list of all your computer's hardware components.

Identifying Your Current Graphics Driver Version

Before rolling back your graphics driver, you need to check which version is currently installed:

  1. In the Device Manager window, look for the category labeled Display adapters and expand it by clicking the arrow next to it.
  1. Right-click on your Intel graphics device (it may be labeled as Intel HD Graphics or similar) and select Properties.
  1. In the Properties window, navigate to the Driver tab. Here, you will see the driver version listed. Make a note of this version in case you need it later.

Rolling Back the Intel Graphics Driver

Follow these steps to roll back your Intel graphics driver:

Verifying the Rollback

To confirm that the rollback was successful, do the following:

  1. Open the Device Manager again using the steps outlined above.
  1. Navigate back to the Display adapters section and right-click on your Intel graphics device.
  1. Select Properties, then go to the Driver tab. Check that the driver version now matches the previous version you noted before the rollback.

Troubleshooting Common Rollback Issues

While rolling back your Intel graphics driver, you might encounter some issues. Here are a few common problems and their solutions:

  • Roll Back Driver button is grayed out: This means there is no previous driver version to roll back to. You may need to manually download an older version from the Intel website.
  • Post-rollback graphical issues: If you experience any graphical issues after the rollback, consider updating your graphics driver again or reinstalling the current driver.
  • Device not recognized: If your Intel graphics device isn’t recognized after the rollback, go back to the Device Manager, right-click your graphics device, and select Scan for hardware changes.
